Robotic Laser Scanning System in Cavity and Void Monitoring and Underground Mining

MDL’s (Measurement Device Limited) most recent innovation is the robotic Void Scanner Mark II (VS150).  This 3D underground laser scanner is designed for ‘boom’ deployment into stopes & voids. The VS150 has been produced to be rugged and reliable to withstand conditions in harsh underground environments. Operators can see a 'real-time' 3D view of the data generated by the VS150. The fast scanning speed method of this device also significantly reduces time required in the field.
The VS150 comes complete with MDL's 'VoidScan” software to display 3D point clouds in real time. The survey data can be exported to most CAD mine survey software packages.
The VS150 is designed to survey stope voids where normal access to the stope is insufficient.  It can be deployed conventionally using survey tripods or by remote control when deployed on rods, booms, masts, lifts and cranes.
MDL’s Marketing Executive Julia Reynolds says:  “The system gives the true volume of the void, allowing stope reconciliation and stope performance evaluation. The system is so simple to use, you do not require technological expertise to use the VS150 - and, as such, is a vital new piece of equipment for the modern mining engineer”
“The typical use of the system is before and after excavations, before or after drilling and blasting and for end-of-shift volumetric measurements to gain a quick, easy, accurate record of productivity,” Ms. Reynolds said.
“MDL is committed to ongoing research and development and has deployed many resources in this effort. MDL’s recent development is its updated version of the Void scanner ‘MARK II’ which offers better functionality and even more user-friendly operation.” Ms. Reynolds added.
